Sport > Competitive > Varsity Teams Fitness Monitor

It requires a combination of many aspects like skill, technique, strategy, team work, and fitness etc to emerge champions in a competition.

To ensure high standards of fitness levels of teamNUS’s Varsity Teams, all athletes are put through a series of physical tests to track their fitness progress. These tests are conducted every 4 weeks to ensure athletes are aware of their improvements and effectiveness of the fitness training that they undergo during normal training sessions.

These Physical Tests include:

1

Beep Test

This tests endurance of an athlete whereby an athlete will have to run continuously a distance of 20m between each “beep”. As time goes by, the “beeps” will be at shorter intervals, resulting in a required faster pace to complete the 20m within the “beep” interval.

2

Vertical Jump

The standing vertical jump is a popular test of leg power and it is routinely used to monitor the effectiveness of an athlete's conditioning program.

3

40m Dash

The aim of this test is to determine acceleration and speed.

4

Medicine Ball Throw

The medicine ball is an excellent tool to test one's strength, coordination, balance, power and core stability.
