Employment Matters


MOM regulation on Employment of Foreign Students

A Work Pass is not required for a foreign student who:

  • works a maximum of 16 hours a week during term;
  • is under an industrial attachment/internship programme (during term time) that is compulsory as part of the graduation requirements
  • is under an industrial attachment/internship programme that is non-compulsory but are modular credits awarding and contribute towards graduation requirement.
  • is a full-time matriculated or registered student in one of the following institutions (of which NUS is one of them );
  • works during University’s vacation period. Please refer here for the NUS Academic calendar.

However, a relevant Work Pass (such as Training Employment Pass (TEP)) is required for a foreign student during term-time who:

  • undertakes voluntary internship/industrial attachment that is non-modular credits awarding in Singapore during term time, where working hours are more than 16 hours per week.
  • applies for time-off or Leave of Absence (LOA) to take up internship/attachment that does not count for credits.
