Host Family Programme
If you are not a NUS student but are interested to play a part in the international community, you might want to consider being a host in our hosting programme. Our Host Family Programme offers the opportunity to build friendship across the borders and to promote Singapore’s way of life
Currently, our hosts are from the NUS alumni community, NUS staff and retirees. We welcome host with families or hosts who are single. There is no home stay requirement.
Some of the common activities that our hosts had done:
- Taking their students out to try local cuisine at hawker centre.
- Inviting international students to their homes to celebrate local festivals together.
- Having a home cooked meal with the family.
Participation in the programme is voluntary.
Recruitment: start in July and December.
Commitment: Depending on the length of stay of the international student in NUS.

Here are what some of the hosts and students in the past have to say about the HFP
"It helps me to view Singapore from a fresh angle. It makes me feel very positive about helping someone ‘settle-in’ Singapore."
~ Host Mr Eng Heng Long, Alumnus
"The programme has especially benefited our children. They become interested in knowing about countries of the world. Now they know where Austria and USA are, and relate these countries to the person they know."
~ Host Lim Fung Huee, Alumnus
"This programme gives me a chance to meet an actual ‘family’. I talked to them about their Singaporean life versus mine back home. That was really interesting."
~ Student Lauranna Li, Canada
"It gives me a valuable insight into how the local people live (Campus people and in the real world as well)."
~ Student Sybille Hrita, Austria
"It's the best way to meet Singaporeans and live the life of a local."
~ Student Matthias Zeh, Germany
