Welcome buddies

As a Welcome Buddy, you will be the first point of contact to new international students. You will play an instrumental role in helping them as they form their first impressions of NUS and Singapore.

Upon international students’ arrival at the Singapore Changi Airport, you will accompany them from the airport to their NUS accommodation. You will assist them in their check-in process and help them to settle in their new accommodation. You may also want to show them to the nearby food outlets, or to where they can get their daily necessities.

Apart from meeting them at the airport, the level of involvement will be informally defined and the following are some of the things that you can do:

• Introduce yourself via emails before they reach Singapore
• Show them around campus and the nearby town centres
• Meet them over meals/drinks
• Guide them through the registration process
• Provide information and assistance (if required) on opening of bank accounts, using Ez-Link card, location of eateries and convenience shops , etc.

As a Welcome Buddy, you are encouraged to lend a hand to the international students for a month to minimise their anxieties of being in a new environment.

ISS will arrange a briefing on administrative matters for volunteers who have signed up with us.

Transport allowance will be provided.

Start: mid July and third week of December
Commitment: 2 weeks before the start semester and one month after the start of a semester
