Pre-departure Information
International Student Guidebooks are produced by ISS and soft copies are made available online for your reference. The guidebook contains important information such as arrival checklist, NUS administration, adjustment to Singapore, etc. Click here to obtain more information on the DOs and DON’Ts before setting off for Singapore.
 
Pre-arrival Services
During peak periods (July & January), Meet-n-Greet Service is available to new students. Upon request, NUS senior student volunteers will meet arriving students at the airport and accompany them back to their NUS hostels.

 

 
International Student Orientations
The orientation is aimed to assist new students to get a better and clearer understanding of the University and will be an excellent opportunity to meet other students.

What's in store for new international students during the orientations?
• Welcome information packs containing brochures, booklets and leaftlets on NUS and Singapore.
• Presentations on various administrative matters, campus services, etc.
• A welcome tea session - a great platform for interactions to take place amongst new students, senior students and staff members
 
 
Student's Pass Information
Advisory service provided to students who are required to apply for the Student's Pass (immigration visa) within the validity period of their Social Visit Pass. Learn more…
 
Part-time Employment Information
Undergraduate And Graduate International Students
With effect from 16 Jan. 2006, a Letter of Consent is not required from the University or from the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) for the employment.

All full-time international undergraduate and graduate students will be allowed to engage in part-time employment, as long as they meet ICA's stipulation of not exceeding 16 hours per week of employment during semester time.

Please ensure you can manage your time well to balance studies with part-time employment, and to observe the cap of 16 hours per week for employment during semester time. If you are on scholarships, kindly seek permission from your scholarship sponsors before engaging in part-time employment.

Please note that there is no cap on the number of hours during the University's vacation periods.

Non-Graduating Exchange / Non-Exchange International Students
Non-graduating international students are not allowed to engage in part-time employment. However, this guideline will not be applicable for those who are here on internship or industrial attachment as part of the course requirement.

Host Family Programme / Friends of NUS Programme
This is a friendship programme to assist the students adapt to the Singaporean lifestyle and diverse cultures through the help of local hosts and senior students. Click here to find out more about this programme.
 
Cross–Cultural Awareness Programme
Students will be provided with opportunities to understand and appreciate Singapore's history, heritage and diversity. The programme consists of a series of workshops and site visits to places of worships and ethnic enclaves and places.
 
Exit Briefing – After NUS... What’s Next?
This briefing is usually held towards the end of each academic semester and aims to provide graduating international students with relevant information to assist them in the transition from NUS to the workplace. Areas that are likely to be covered are Student's Pass, graduation matters, information on loans, employment matters, M.O.E.'s Tuition Grant (applicable to undergraduates only), etc.
 
 

This project is part of an expansion plan to offer beyond what are currently available to international students and draws inspiration from senior students who have selflessly offered their time to befriend new international students and give meaningful contributions to the international student community.
