Pre-departure What to Bring

Essentials
• Some recent color passport-sized photographs (35mm x 45mm). The photograph must be:
- taken within the last three months;
- taken full face without headgear, unless the applicant habitually wears a headgear in accordance with religious or racial customs. The headgear must not hide the applicant's facial features;
- taken against plain white background with a matt or semi-matt finish;
• Letter of offer for Admission to NUS;
• Passport and other identification documents such as, Identity Card, Birth Certificate;
• Confirmed notification on accommodation in the Student Residences (if you applied for university accommodation);
• Originals of documentary evidence of education and qualifications;
• Any original documents that may be required for processing by NUS or Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (Example : marriage certificate, spouse or children's documents.);
• Any other NUS documents sent to you prior to your departure from home;
• Cash (minimum S$2,000) for temporary accommodation, transportation, meals, etc. before moving into your residence;
• Bank draft to cover tuition and student residences fees; and
• Favourite photographs or small objects to decorate your room and make it feel more like home.
• National costume of your country


Other items which can be purchased in Singapore include

• Informal light clothing;
• Bath towel and toiletries;
• Pillow and bedsheets;
• Spare pair of spectacles and medication;
• Alarm clock;
• Slippers;
• Camera;
• Calculator;
• Dictionary (bilingual);
• Sports equipment (racquets, etc.)

Electrical voltage in Singapore is 230 volts, 50 cycles. The electrical outlets are mainly for 3 pin plugs. Adapters can be easily purchased in Singapore allowing you to use the 2 pin plugs.

Please note that objectionable literature, controlled drugs and psychotropic substances, reproductions of copyright publications, videotapes, video compact discs, laser disc, records or cassettes, chewing gum, cigarette, lighters of pistol or revolver shape, etc are prohibited from entry into the country.
