Admission Guidelines |
Eligibility
-
Only full time Undergraduate students registered with the
National University of Singapore are eligible.
-
Students must read and adhere to the
Code of Student
Conduct, University’s
Administrative
Policies, and Housing Agreement their stay in a NUS
student accommodation
-
Students who are no longer of full-time status (e.g. on Leave of
Absence, withdrew or graduated) are not eligible to stay in NUS
student accommodation and will be given 7 days notice to vacate
their rooms
except under exceptional circumstances.

Students with outstanding arrears in their accommodation accounts
will not be eligible for an NUS accommodation.
-
Students who are barred due to disciplinary or breach of housing
agreement will not be eligible for an NUS accommodation for the
duration of the barring period.

Except under special considerations, Undergraduate students
whose official status are designated as Graduate students (e.g.
students on concurrent degree programmes) are not eligible for
Undergraduate students accommodation and would have to apply for
Graduate student accommodation.

Only students who have formally accepted their offer to study
full time in NUS are eligible for an NUS student accommodation.

International students (non Singaporean/Singapore PR) are
required to have the appropriate and valid passes as issued by
the Immigration & Custom Authority (ICA) or Ministry of Manpower
(MOM) during the course of their stay in an NUS hostel.

Students
are required to be insured under the NUS student insurance
scheme or its equivalent throughout their stay in an NUS hostel.
Selection Criteria
-
International Undergraduates
(non-Singaporeans and non-Singapore Permanent Residents) are
guaranteed accommodation in year 1 and 2 (based on year of
admission) of their studies in NUS.
This guarantee is only valid for semester 1 applications submitted during the
stipulated exercise periods.
International students will
have to submit a new application if they wish to secure a place
in an NUS hostel for year 2 of their studies. Students on Leave of
Absence during the first 2 years will no longer be guaranteed and
are required to submit an appeal for accommodation. The appeal will
be reviewed and subject to approval by OSA.

International
Undergraduates who have obtained Singapore Permanent Residence (SPR)
status prior or after admission to the University will be on par with
Singaporean Undergraduate students.

Singapore PR
Students who obtained
their SPR status during their studies in the University will
be assisted for their 1st year of studies subject to
availability of accommodation and declaration during
application. From year 2 onwards, allocation
will be processed as a Singaporean applicant. |

Local |
Local (Singaporean and Singapore PR) senior undergraduate
students applying to the halls or residences will be
allocated an accommodation based on the prevailing admission
criteria. |

International |
2nd year –
International Students (excluding Singapore PR)
Students are assured of an accommodation in year 2
of their studies in NUS subject to the submission of a valid
hostel application. This guarantee is only valid for
semester 1 applications submitted within the stipulated exercise
periods.
Students wishing to stay in their desired accommodation are
expected to meet the prevailing admission criteria. Failing
which, they will be randomly selected and allocated based on
availability
2nd year – Singapore PR
Students will be processed as a
Singaporean Applicant.
3rd year onwards
Students wishing to stay in the
halls or residences are expected to
meet the prevailing admission criteria. |
Freshman (year 1)
-
Freshman who wish to
apply for a place in
one of the 6 the halls during Freshman Accommodation Exercise will
be selected based on their pre-University Co-Curricular Activities (CCA)
and availability.

Freshman
who wish to apply for a place in the residence during Freshman
Accommodation Exercise will be randomly selected and allocated based
on availability.

International freshman (Non-singaporean and non-SPR)
not selected by the halls or Residential Colleges will be
randomly selected and allocated based on availability.

Freshman
who wish to apply for a place in the Residential Colleges will first
need to be accepted into the Residential or USP programme. Please
enquire directly with the Residential Colleges.

stated otherwise, the default selection criteria are based on random
selection and availability.
Senior UG (year 2 and above)
-
Senior undergraduate students applying to the halls or
residences will be allocated an accommodation based on the
prevailing admission criteria.

International 2nd year Undergraduates (Non-singaporean and
non-SPR) who fail to qualify for an accommodation via the
prevailing admission criteria will be processed last and randomly
allocated based on availability.

Overseas SEP/NOC students are not assured of
accommodation upon their return to NUS. Allocation will be based on the prevailing
admission criteria.

Senior Undergraduates who wishes to apply for a place in the
Residential Colleges will first need to be accepted into the
University Town’s Residential Programme (UTRP) or University’s
Scholars Programme (USP). Please enquire directly with the
Residential Colleges.

stated otherwise, the default selection criteria are based on random
selection and availability.
Non Graduating Students
-
Primary consideration for student accommodation will be given to
Non
Graduating Exchange students who are
undertaking undergraduate modules in
NUS.

Unless stated otherwise, the default selection criteria are

Graduate Students
Single Graduate Accommodation
-
Primary consideration will be accorded to full-time research
students,
particularly new students.

Secondary consideration will be accorded to the new incoming
coursework
graduate students.

Unless stated otherwise, the default selection criteria are
based on random
selection and availability.
Married Graduate Accommodation
For priority consideration, you must submit the following
documents into UHMS during application:-
- Marriage certificate (Official translation into English if
in foreign language)
- Spouse documents - passport
- Social Visit Pass / relevant
Singapore passes (EP/DP/WP)
- Student card (if applicable)
and/or

For Graduate Student Apartment (GSA), primary consideration will
be accorded to married research graduate students with
accompanying spouse in particular the new incoming students (GSA
max occupancy is 2 adults)

Consideration may be accorded to current married graduate
students with accompanying spouse who would be
completing their candidatures by the next semester. The relevant
documentation from supervisor or faculty must be submitted
during application for Residential Services consideration.

Students applying for a married accommodation will be processed
and prioritised based on their submitted documentations.
Applications with incomplete/missing supporting documents may be
accorded a lower priority and/or be given a conditional offer if
successful for a married accommodation.
