SO Home > Snippets : Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations

Co-organised by a Harvard student body and host university, the event seeks to promote youth involvement in crucial global issues of these times. The forum is held annually in a different university in an Asia-Pacific country.

Participants are able to rub minds with prominent personalities from the fields of politics, business, education among others.

“The HPAIR workshop on contemporary art was a success. Beyond the intellectual insights gained, it was an opportunity to mingle and exchange views with fellow youths with a passion for contemporary art. I met so many students from all around the world and the topics of discussion were relevant to the contemporary issues. In all, the workshop was extremely insightful.”

~ Nurhaizatul Jamila Jamil, Arts Year 3 (2005)

“During my participation in HPAIR 2004, which was held in Shanghai, I was amazed at the global savvy of many of the participants. For example, some of the students from the West presented their papers in fluent Mandarin! The local participants too were very sharp when debating on leading issues concerning their country. As the event was held outside Singapore, I was able to see first-hand the development of the host city and I was impressed with the rate of growth of Shanghai.

It was great meeting overseas Singaporeans at this event. They shared with me their unique perspectives of looking at events in Singapore and Asia.”

~ Farhan Ali, Arts Year 2 (2004)
