SO Home > Snippets : East Asian Common Space Youth Forum

The annual event sees tertiary students all over East Asia break new grounds in regional cooperation by forging mutual international understanding, bridging the perceptual gap among communities in East Asia and creating a youth network.

Fifteen NUS students were selected to participate in the inaugural event held in South Korea in August 2004.

“The EACOS Youth Forum provided us with a unique avenue to view events from the perspectives of national leaders through the opportunity to play their roles during the ASEAN+3 mock summit. This unique first-hand approach to learning allowed me to see the strengths and limitations of the current ASEAN+3 framework. I’m sure more great ideas will surface from the forum in future.

Through my involvement in this event, I realised that, despite the differences among us in language, culture and views, the youths share a common passion and aspiration for a better tomorrow.”
