An old, medieval tradition with a lot of pomp and showy display was set to ring out the old year (2013) and celebrate the upcoming New Year at a modern day Masquerade Party at UTown. The Cinnamon and Tembusu Dining Hall was transformed into a party venue with a night filled with programs and delicious buffet spread. An event jointly organized by Office of Housing Services (OHS) and Office of Student Affairs (OSA), the event committee comprising of UTown Management Office and OSA resident life staff, was looking to do something unique for the residents of UTown, hence the Masquerade theme.
On the evening of December 12, around 6.30pm, with the theme music from The Phantom of the Opera playing, more than 350 residents and staff showed up in costumes and they were welcomed with door gifts, a box of chocolate and a masquerade mask. The event was flagged off by welcome address by our Guest-of-Honor Mr. Allan Tan, Director of OHS.
Around 7.30pm, dinner commenced and many residents helped themselves to the buffet spread catered by Continental Delight Catering Services which saw a wide array of dishes from US Roast Tom Turkey to Crispy Prawn with Mayo Dip.
Interactive games organized by OSA, were held throughout the evening with active and spontaneous participation from the residents. Best Dressed participants were shortlisted and after much deliberation, the “Best-Dressed” Winner was announced and presented with shopping vouchers.
As the Masquerade Party came to an end, the much awaited lucky draw segment filled the hall with excitement and cheers. All eyes were drawn towards the stage as the winners were announced and called up on stage to claim their prizes. Many left with gifts on hand, but all left with a wide smile and a lifetime of memories.
