Since 2008, OES and OED Plant System Engineering Department are working on an important project to evaluate existing metering and install meters in all buildings on campus. This will include metering of electricity, water and chilled water. Once completed, building owners and managers will be able to access on-line data to monitor the energy consumption and detect unusual trends that could indicate possible problems with the energy systems in their buildings. This will allow them to locate energy consumption “hot spots” and prioritise energy conservation projects to reduce their operational costs. As Lord William Thomson Kelvin once said, “If you cannot measure it, you cannot improve it.”

The contract has been awarded in August 2010 and expected to complete by End Feb 2012.
