Young NTUC
Calling all environmental groups or green minds on campus! Following the SAVE THAT PEN email sent on 23 Sep (Fri), we sincerely hope more students would come forth with amazing ideas. Young NTUC has provided financial support for the SAVE THAT PEN team and there are other avenues of partnership that environmental project holders and Young NTUC can explore.

Young NTUC is committed to connect with the youths and actively partners with them in various projects. Interested environmental activists of NUS can find out more here: http://www.nus.edu.sg/oes/prog/envedu/young_ntuc.html.

NUS International Coastal Cleanup Singapore (ICCS) 2011: Going Green and Greener!

Under the guidance of Mr N. Sivasothi, about 125 student volunteers from NUS conducted a cleanup at Lim Chu Kang East Mangrove as part of the 9th annual ICCS on 17 Sep 2011. ICCS is an international event that takes place in over 70-100 countries to encourage positive change in the reduction of marine debris. This event is put together by the students from the NUS Environmental Science and Engineering Students Club (ESESC). In the 90 minutes effort, NUS staff and students endured the unfavourable conditions to collect a total of 1887 kg of debris in 181 trash bags!

Their genuine interest in sustainability can be exemplified by the reuse of gloves year after year as well as the first collaboration with Alpha Biodiesel to provide cleaner fuel for bus transport to and from the venue. The success of ICCS 2011 would not be realised without the strong support of enthusiastic participants and greater success will follow in the years to come.
