NUS Fights Climate Change:
Meatout Thursdays & Project Box
Meatout Thursdays - a step forward in the fight against climate change !
Climate change can never be sufficiently addressed without reflecting on our diet. According to the UN FAO Livestock Long Shadow Report, the meat industry is contributing to 18% of global greenhouse gases, that is more than all cars, planes, trucks and ships added together. Climate scientists such as Dr Rajendra Pachauri, the Chief of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, have also urged global citizens to cut down on meat consumption as it is one of the most effective ways to reduce our individual’s carbon footprint.
Inspired by the Belgium city, Ghent, where many civil servants have volunteered to abstain from meat every Thursday, Meatout Thursdays’ is a voluntary movement initiated by SAVE and supported by NUS’ Office of Environmental Sustainability and Office of Estate and Development. We will also be working with various canteen stalls to highlight their meatless dishes so that there will be more options for you to choose from!
So far, 3500 people have participated or pledged to participate in this initiative! Join us in this movement and stand a chance to win dining vouchers by clicking on the link below:

In NUS Canteens alone, 1800 paper/plastic takeaway boxes are used and disposed of everyday, is that really necessary?
From now till 31/12/2009, you can make a difference to this and be rewarded! Project Box is Back by Popular Demand!
