The global Earth Hour event will be held on 27th March this year to mobilize people to make a stand against climate change! Since 2007, the symbolic act of switching off lights has seen unprecedented participation all over the world. This year will be the 2nd year NUS is supporting this movement.
Non-essential lights in prominent places on campus will be switched off from 8.30 - 9.30pm on 27th March. Together with the NUS Halls of Residences, NUSSU SAVE is organizing a record setting attempt for the largest display of origami lilies made from waste paper during the day itself. These lilies will be planted at the SRC field from 3pm onwards and everyone is welcome to help out and show NUS’ commitment for the environment!
You can participate in Earth Hour 2010 by
1. Switching off your lights from 8:30 - 9:30pm on 27th March
And you can do this wherever you are! Should your office, club/society wish to participate as a group and require assistance, do contact us at nussu.save@gmail.com
2. Fold an origami lily to support the NUS Earth Hour event
Lilies collected will be planted on the SRC field on the day as a show of NUS students’ commitment for our environment. You can find the guide on how to fold the lilies and where to pass them to us here.
3. Spread the word: Earth Hour, Every Hour
The true meaning of Earth Hour lies beyond the 1 hour’s switch off. Make energy saving part of your daily life! And tell others about it too! For energy saving tips, please refer to http://www.e2singapore.gov.sg/energy-saving-tips.html
Look out for more updates and our outreach booths for Earth Hour around campus! For more information, please visit http://nusearthhour2010.wordpress.com/ and address any enquiries to nussu.save@gmail.com
In addition, take part in the Yahoo! Great Lightbulb Swap and do your part towards energy conservation!
Bring down any old lightbulb to our booth outside LT6 on 16th March, between 11am to 4pm and we’ll exchange it to an energy efficient lightbulb* – FREE! (*while stocks last, there is no limit to the number of light bulbs you can exchange)
NUS Earth Hour 2010 is a collaborative project with Southwest CDC, supported by NUSSU, the Office of Environmental Sustainability, Office of Estate and Development, Office of Safety, Health and Environment, Office of Campus Security and the NUS Halls of Residences. |
