Following several requests, OES (Office of Environmental Sustainability) has arranged for the plastic boxes that name cards are delivered in to be sent back to the supplier for re-use, a system preferable to melting and recycling the actual plastic that the container is made of.
All of NUS’ name cards are printed by “Kwok Printers Pte Ltd”. The name card boxes, once empty, can be returned to the company via the couriers who deliver the new cards. This service is free of charge and requires zero paperwork.
For this system to work, we suggest that within each office or department, all empty name card boxes should be handed over to the administrator who receives the daily mail. This administrator can then return any empty boxes to the Kwok Printers courier when they deliver new name cards.
Whilst this is only a small measure, it is another example of just one of the thousands of little ways that we can green up our daily lives, and we hope it provides some inspiration for people to find their own ways to help NUS become a more sustainable institution!
We would like to know how many offices will be keen to take up this initiative.
