Not just talk - Follow up on the 3 initiatives
With such strong support from the NUS community, the Office of Estate and Development Retail and Dining Division has agreed to to phase out free plastic bags in all canteens in NUS Kent Ridge campus.
From 18th January 2010, all canteen stalls will charge 10 cents for each plastic bag requested for takeaways* to encourage people to bring their own bag or simply refuse to take one.
With the support of the Office of Provost,
double-sided printing for our assignments will be strongly encouraged across all NUS modules. A more detailed announcement with regards to this policy will be released within the next 2 weeks.
SAVE will continue to work with the Office of Estate and Development and the Office of Environmental Sustainability to follow up on the 25 Degrees policy.
SAVE would like to thank all students and staff who took part in the voting. Your voice is instrumental in the decision to extend these policies on campus. Each individual action, no matter how small, is a reaffirmation of NUS’ commitment to fight climate change.

*This applies to plastic carrier bags with handles. The transparent plastic bags that are in direct contact with the food will not be charged. Just like in the NUS Co-op, all proceeds collected from the sale of the plastic bags will be deposited in a coin box at the cashier's counter and will go to the Rebate2Earth fund to support future environmental projects in NUS.
The YEE programme seeks to develop a core group of YEEs between the ages of 17 and 35 years to lead, promote and encourage their peers to take ownership of their environment and lead more environmentally-sustainable lifestyles. The programme complements the existing, and through the workshops, YEEs will gain deeper insights into environmental issues, and improve their communication and project management skills to take on proactive leadership roles for the environment.
