Invitation to Students to Participate in the National Climate Change Competition 2012
| 1. | The National Climate Change Secretariat (NCCS), together with the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), the National Environment Agency (NEA), the National Research Foundation (NRF), and the National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA) Council, launched the National Climate Change Competition (NCCC) 2012 today. The theme of the competition is “Singapore: A Climate Change Resilient City”. | |
| 2. | The NCCC was conceived last year as part of NCCS’ outreach efforts to raise awareness on climate change amongst youths. The inaugural competition attracted a total of 141 entries from students across all levels. | |
| 3. | As a small and low-lying island, Singapore is vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Everyone has a stake in addressing climate change as we will be affected directly or indirectly by its impact. The NCCC 2012 invites students to address the issue through technological innovations and individual actions. It also reinforces the message that positive steps can be taken to slow down the pace of climate change if everyone works together on the issue. The competition encourages students to apply what they understand of climate change and its impact, and propose ways to reduce carbon emissions. | |
| 4. | To cater to students with varying interests, the NCCC 2012 comprises a short film challenge and a technology project challenge. The NCCC 2012 Short Film Challenge is open to students studying in primary and secondary schools, junior colleges, centralised institute (CI), institutes of technical education (ITEs), polytechnics and universities. The Technology Project Challenge is open to upper secondary school students, and students from junior colleges, CI, ITEs, polytechnics and universities (including post-graduate students). | |
| 5. | Competition entries can be submitted from 19 March 2012. The deadline for submission is 7 May 2012 for the Short Film Challenge, and 25 June 2012 for the Technology Project Challenge. | |
| 6. | The winning participants/teams from each category of both challenges will be awarded cash prizes. Each participant will also receive a certificate of participation. | |
| 7. | We would like to invite NUS students to participate in the competition. Please find attached the electronic version of the competition posters for dissemination to students. More details on the competition can be found at www.nccs.gov.sg/competition. Printed copies of the posters are also available if NUS requires them. Kindly write to mariana_ahmad@nccs.gov.sg to arrange for pick up from NCCS. | |
| 8. | Should the students have any questions on the competition, they can send us an email at NCCS_competition@nccs.gov.sg. | |
| 9. | Thank you and we look forward to receiving submissions from NUS. |
Yours sincerely
