GHG Inventory

At the Third IARU Presidents’ Meeting at New Haven, United States, 22-23 April 2008, it was “agreed that setting targets on GHG emission was desirable. Therefore, each University should – by 31 January 2009 – declare their GHG emission target in time for announcement at the Copenhagen International Scientific Congress on Climate Change in March 2009”. To fulfill our commitment to this agreement, NUS would establish targets for various GHG sources resulting from the university’s activities.

These include:
1.

Energy Usage
2.   Air Miles
3.

Fleet Emissions
GHG Inventory
The Office of Environmental Sustainability (OES) is tasked by NUS senior management to establish a GHG inventory which enumerates GHG emission arising from the NUS’ direct and indirect activities. This inventory is crucial to identify specific areas and emission trends where emission reduction strategies will have the greatest impact.

Creating this inventory would require considerable time and effort as it would cut across faculties, offices and departments, particularly in areas of finance, facilities, academics and student life. Once the mechanisms of the GHG inventory are established, NUS will continually monitor, track and review its progress.
