Department Fleet
There are over 35 departmental vehicles owned by the Office of Estate and Development and various departments. Instead just using a common petrol or diesel conversion factor for all the vehicles as was done so in AY0708, attempts were made to differentiate and localized the conversion methods. In accordance to the GHG Protocol Initiative, the first priority is to use fuel based calculations, especially for departments which are already collecting fuel records. For the remaining departmental vehicles, distance based calculations are used because most of the departments only keep odometer records. In order to ensure a greater accuracy in the calculations of carbon emissions, we use localised conversion factors derived from the NEA website “Database of Registered Motor Vehicles” instead of the GHG Protocol wherever possible. The “Database of Registered Motor Vehicles” provides specific CO2 emissions with respect to individual vehicle model where information such as car make, model, transmissions, and engine capacity is available.
