Office of Environmental Sustainability

Climate Change

As a global university centered in Asia, NUS aspires to take the lead in exemplifying an environmentally responsible campus community. NUS is committed to protect the environment and will incorporate sustainability in all aspects of our campus life, from operations, planning, construction, research, education, and instruction to public service.

As part of the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU), comprising ten universities from the United States, Asia, Europe, Britain and Australia, we subscribe to and implement the IARU Campus Sustainability principles. These include:

Promote best practices in institutional environmental performance as well as developing synergies between education, research and the commitment to sustainability. The emphasis is on key areas of resource consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and biodiversity conservation
Develop environmental literacy among staff and students

Develop programmes to integrate academic and operational activities to enhance campus environmental performance as well as promoting practical research and teaching opportunities that improve the learning experience and foster environmental literacy
Exchange relevant information and expertise among IARU members
Establish appropriate indices for sustainability performance
