Joint Advisory on Double-Sided Print for Student Submission

1.
NUS recognises the environmental impact of high paper consumption which contributes to deforestation and waste production. Deforestation is a major cause of global GHG emissions, especially in Southeast Asia where the forestry sector contributes a significant share of the region's GHG emissions. |

As a leading university in Asia, NUS plays a key role in sustainability efforts and is committed to minimising paper usage on campus. As one of the first steps towards sustainable resource management, the University would like to set a common standard for all assignments in the University to be submitted either electronically or on double-sided print. Thus, we would like to encourage double-sided submission to be set as a condition by lecturers for future submissions and for all students to submit their assignments (including theses) on double-sided print or electronically, whenever possible. |
| |
3.
However, the University recognises the need for single-sided print under certain conditions. These could be specified by the lecturer, and should be an exception rather than the rule. |
| |
4.
To assist students in double sided printing, the computers in NUS libraries and printing centres have been set to default double-sided printing. For students who print from home and have printers that lack the duplex function, a short "Guide to Printing Double-sided Manually" is available here. |

Together, we can help reduce NUS' paper usage and our impact on the environment. |
