This circular is to inform all staff and students that NUS will adjust the air-conditioning default temperature set point to 25°C with effect from 22 Oct 2007 onwards, in line with NEA’s recommended guideline. |

NUS is committed to protecting the environment. One of our environmental objectives is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by reducing our energy consumption. |
| |
3.
We are taking our first big step by targeting energy used by the air-conditioning system. Air-conditioning accounts for about 60% of our overall energy consumption. Users can be assured that comfort level will not be significantly compromised by the adjustment to the air-conditioning temperature set point. Where applicable, users are allowed to manually adjust the temperature using the thermostat to meet their comfort level. |
| |
4.
Temperature monitoring exercises will also be carried out campus wide with the assistance of technical experts, and steps will be taken to fine-tune the air-conditioning temperature where required. |
| |
5.
However, the University strongly encourages users not to set temperatures below 24°C and to switch off the air-conditioner when not in use. In addition, instead of adjusting the set temperatures, users are encouraged to adjust the fan speed and/or turn on the swing mode to improve ventilation to meet their required comfort level. |
