MD2 is being constructed as a state-of-the-art 4-storey, along with an additional 3-storey Mechanical /Electrical tower (MEP) tucked at one end. Completed in December 2008, the facility will house staff and researchers from the current MD1 and serve advanced biomedical research programs at NUS.
The podium block houses laboratories, procedure and autoclave rooms, meeting and office spaces, and other ancillary facilities like bedding disposal rooms, cold rooms, toilets and storage rooms. The MEP tower contains mechanical and electrical plant areas for switchgears, AHUs, boilers, pumps and tanks.
