Bukit Timah Campus

Home previously to a number of institutions like Raffles College (1928 – 1949), the University of Malaya (1949 – 1962), the University of Singapore (1962 – 1981), the National Institute of Education (1982 – 2000) and the Singapore Management University (2001 – 2005), the Bukit Timah campus was officially returned to NUS on 28 May 2005. It is now home to the Faculty of Law, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, East Asian Institute, Institute of South Asian Studies and Asian Research Institute
The design concept of Bukit Timah Campus was developed after consultation with stake holders and alumni. The new learning environment should also preserve the nostalgic feel of the yester years. Situated next to the Singapore Botanic Gardens, the Bukit Timah Campus is connected to the greenery through link ways. Students and Staff can enjoy relaxing moments in the unique park setting between lectures and tutorials amidst

With the exception of Block B and Tower Block which are gazetted as conservation buildings, all other buildings are for preservation. Significant heritage spaces such as the upper and lower quadrangles which contribute hugely to the character of the Bukit Timah Campus have its lawn sensitively restored with crisp landscape detailing, more shade trees and seating. The upper quadrangles will also be equipped for outdoor performances and sporting events. In the night, all heritage buildings will be highlighted by discreet façade lighting to enhance the ambience of the park. The major access routes surrounding the upper and lower quadrangles will allow the community to maximise the enjoyment of the green. Handicapped friendly features such as ramps, chair lifts and platform lists will be introduced to make this campus handicapped accessible and friendly.
The newly renovated Bukit Timah Campus won the ‘URA Architectural Heritage Award’ in 2007. It now offers the NUS Community the perfect garden/park campus environment for contemplation, reflection, intellectual discourse and stimulation.
