Green at Kent Vale
Residents
at Kent Vale apartments could now play a role to contribute
to a greener environment. OED has kicked off a recycling
programme at Kent Vale since 1 December 2003.
Recycling Bins are provided by the appointed recycling
contractor at strategic locations in each residential
block to receive items which residents wish to recycle....

Road Safety - Do Not Jaywalk
By
now, many of you should have seen the bright orange
banners along the main roads in campus bearing the message
"Be Safe, Not Sorry, Do Not Jaywalk". These
banners serve to encourage and remind the NUS community
not to jaywalk as part of our road safety campaign...

Water
Conservation Initiative
OED
has adopted a new water tank cleaning chemical since
August 2003 that will conserve large amounts of potable
water. The pilot trial was carried out in water tanks
of 84 m3 capacity located at Engineering Block EA. Two
bottles of sampling water were sent to an accredited
laboratory for water quality analysis at the end of
the cleaning process. The test results showed that the
water sample complied with authority requirements and
was safe for consumption...

A
Whiff of Cherry Blossoms
"Shingapo-ru
e yokoso", in English, that means, "Welcome
to Singapore". OED played host to a group of Japanese
visitors on a one-day visit to NUS on 1 March 2004.
At 9.00am, Assistant Professor Mitsuharu Hattori (Division
of Molecular Neurobiology, University of Tokyo), Mr
Takeharu Kawai (Project Manager, Mitsubishi Research
Institute) and Ms Junko Ogawara (interpreter) arrived
at OED on a study trip to learn more about campus planning,
design and development with a focus on research facilities
for lab-based programmes....

Service Centre
"Good
morning, OED Customer Service Centre. How can I help
you?", you may have heard this each time you call
the OED for assistance and wonder what is this Customer
Service Centre all about.
The Customer Service Centre (CSC) is the merger of two
units – the NUS Main Line and OED Maintenance Response
Centre. This newly-merged unit was formed since 1 January
2004. The unit has a team of five wonderful Customer
Service Officers - Mr Syed Nasir bin Syed Mohamed, Ms
R Thenmozli, Ms Rosnah bte Samat, Mrs Arumugam and Ms
Jasmin Tay...

you call our Customer Service Centre hotline, 68741515.
Sounds familiar? Yes, the sweet voice behind that polite
greeting belongs to our loyal and dedicated staff, Mrs
Arumugam. If you have a hard time twisting your tongue
to pronounce Arumugam, it's alright, she won't mind
you calling her Mrs Aru for short...

The
SWRC Committee for FY03/04 ended its term of service
on a high note, a weekend cruise on board the Starship
Virgo. The annual Dinner and Dance was held in conjunction
with the event and was attended by 75 staff members
