    ED'S NOTE

Collaboration <intransitive verb>: to work jointly with others or together especially in an intellectual endeavor (Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary).

Since the last issue, we have completed numerous projects in collaboration with other NUS departments or external institutions, for instance, APPA-NUS Knowledge-sharing seminar cum MOU signing ceremony.

A MOU was signed between the Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers (APPA) and OED to launch a Singapore Chapter, followed by a knowledge-sharing seminar on "Best Practices in Facilities Management" on 25 August 2006. NUS and APPA will work jointly to improve the quality of facilities management and planning in Singapore as well as the Asian-Pacific Rim areas.

In recent collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), OED supported the department in the preparations of the official opening on 28 August 2006. Let us share with you the pictures taken at the event.

Recently, we visited Nanyang Technological University to share our experiences and best practices that will benefit both institutions. Through the visit, OED has gained not only vast knowledge but also a friend.

A group of OED staff brought the beneficiaries from the Rotary Family Service Centre for an outing as part of our Community Service Project. The event was a huge success. OED strives to plan for more programmes to lift the volunteerism spirit out from our colleagues.

What can the Office of Estate and Development do to further enhance the campus environment to make it more conducive for a thinking, entrepreneurial and intellectual community? A team set out on a mission to learn from some leading universities in U.S. We share the learning journey with you.

We have recently conducted a roadshow at LT9, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences to inform the community of the coming upgrading works for the Deck. Though the renovations will commence from 18 November 2006, we share with you the information on the coming renovations.

Last but most importantly, NUS High School, designed by CPG Consultants Pte Ltd, has won a Honour award from the famous US-based DesignShare awards Programme for its innovative design. In addition, the school was also featured by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in one of its publications.
