ED'S
NOTE |
| |
|
|
 |
|
Have you wondered what NUS
would be like without OED? Will life be the same and will
things function smoothly?
Well, this month, we focus on how OED ensures a safe and
conducive environment for the NUS community at various events
and/or activities.
OED organized two events in the last quarter:
Mr Christopher Ahoy, Associate Vice President for Facilities,
Iowa State University for Science and Technology, visited
OED and conducted a "Best
Practices in Facilities Management"
seminar. Balanced Scorecard Plus? Six-Sigma?
Malcolm Baldrige? Lean? Sounds familiar? Read more about
the event under OED Happenings.
OED has always made safety its top priority. On 31 August
2005, we organized our first OED Safety Day. This event
aimed to create safety awareness not only among OED's
staff but also among our guests from external organizations
and other NUS departments. Experience
our tension and excitement
under OED Happenings.
Congratulations to our IQ Team once again. This time they
have won the GOLD award at the NIQCC! Read all about it
under OED Happenings.
Did you participate at the DBS-NUS
Heritage Run last September? Go behind the scenes to find
out how we worked to make this event a success.
Ever thought about how nice it would be to have place on
campus to chill out with your friends, colleagues and family?
A new development is in the pipeline
- Alumni Complex. Come and read more about it.
We have a new Director, Mr Michael Ng, at the helm of OED.
Curious to know how he looks like? Read more about him in
the article under Easy Reads.
We have a long list of great articles this October Issue.
Enjoy!

NUS' GOING
GREEN
With the increase in NUS'
population, coupled with development of new buildings in
the University, the volume of refuse generated by the users
has steadily increased. The waste materials compose of a
mix of materials, some of which are recyclable. Such materials
include the aluminium drink cans, papers and plastic bottles.
The recycling of these materials not only helps to conserve
our environment but also serves as a source of revenue to
the university. The recycling
programme has also gained the support from the Campus Green
Committee (CGC)...

BALANCED SCORECARD?
SIX SIGMA? "HEY, WE JUST HAD THE SEMINAR ON THAT!"
Work improvement. That's the

at. Some methodologies like the Balanced Scorecard, Lean

OED PLAYED
A PIVOTAL ROLE AT THE DBS-NUS HERITAGE RUN - BUT WE DIDN'T
FORGET OUR TEAM
DBS-NUS Heritage Run - Sunday, 18 September
2005
From the start - with about
800 runners in Bukit Timah and 500 runners in Kent Ridge
all raring to go - to the finish
- amidst all the thunder and lighting, redolent of
a Shakespearean tragedy - the
DBS-NUS Heritage Run proceeded
without a hitch, thanks to the near perfect logistic execution
on Sunday, 18 September 2005.
The run, managed by Transport and Logistics Branch with
staff, students and alumni volunteers, went on in spite
of the heavy morning downpour. All runners completed their
route safely, 10km from Bukit Timah Campus and 5km within
the Kent Ridge Campus...
