SWRC - VISITS TO SUNGEI BULOH AND KRANJI QUAIL FARM (by Tan Swee Yong)
One fine Saturday morning on the 18th December 2003, OED's Staff
Welfare and Recreation Committee (SWRC) organized a visit to the
Sungei Buloh and Kranji Quail Farm for OED staff and their families.
The excursion group of 14 adults and 16 children, fully armed with
binoculars, cameras and hiking packs, set off early from OED at
8.00am amidst quiet excitement
All was chatty and gay half an hour later when they reach their
first stop, the well known conservation marsh land, Sungei Buloh
situated at the North West of Singapore. The cheery group was greeted
by an equally enthusiastic park guide who led them on a one-and-a-half
hours trail along a board-walk.
With the guidance from the park guide, the group was able to seek
out interesting plants and flowers, and learn about their unique
characteristics and use. It was interesting to discover that certain
plants can be used as fishing baits while some are dangerously poisonous
even to the lightest touch.
