The University aims to create
a Cultural Hub (CH) by synergizing the existing University
Cultural Centre and NUS Museums with the proposed Yong Siew
Toh Conservatory of Music (YSTCM) and Communal Activity Space
(CAS). Collectively, the Hub will form a key focal point for
the education and promotion of the arts and music, not only
for the University and Singapore but also for the Asia-Pacific
region. It is also earmarked as one of the key landmarks for
the NUS Centennial Celebrations in 2005.
The establishment of the YSTCM is in collaboration with the
renowned Peabody Institute at John Hopkins University. It
is also part of a wide ranging strategy initiated by MOE to
position Singapore as a renaissance city.
Among other facilities, the new Conservatory will house 29
teaching studios, 41 practice rooms, a music recording studio,
various large and small ensemble rooms plus numerous tutorial
and seminar rooms.
All the rooms will be fully equipped and acoustically treated
to provide the best teaching environment available for a world
class music Conservatory. |
