7 VISIONARIES – shines again!
(by Sim Wee Leng)

The WITS team from Campus Security made headlines again by clinching a silver award at the PS 21 ExCel WITs convention held on 6 November 2003. The team was formed in 11 January 2001, and it managed to win a GOLD Award at the same convention last year. It was awarded a SILVER award at the National Quality Circle convention for the year 2002.

The objective of the team is to review and improve the provision of security services in NUS. Originally comprising of seven staff, it has since grown to a team of ten members with the inclusion of colleagues with the same passion and vision.

The only team to represent NUS in the PS 21 ExCel Convention for the year 2003, the team presented its winning entry entitled: "Problems faced in alerting campus security officers in an emergency at fringe areas". It proposed the installation of emergency call points (ECPs) at strategic locations on campus. It is estimated that the installation of ECPs will help NUS save approximately S$115,200 annually in manpower costs. Facilitated by Mr. P. Samynathan (Manager, Campus Security and Car Parks), and led by Mr. Thong Teck Yong (Assistant Manager, Campus Security and Car Parks), the team is well poised to bring further glory in WITs activities for the University.
