OED Milestones

1962
January
The Estate Office was housed in the Administration Building, Bukit Timah Campus. There were two workshops, one located between Houses No 4 and 5 and the other at the Medical Faculty Campus in the Singapore General Hospital.

1978
April
The Estate Office was moved from Bukit Timah Campus to Kent Ridge Campus.

1980
August
The merging of University of Singapore and Nanyang University created an influx of staff to the Estate Office.

1984
November
The Estate Office was established as a Department.

1991
January
The Campus Upgrading Unit was formed to oversee expansion and upgrading programmes.

1993
April
Staff Quarters Unit was formed to create a one stop service centre for expatriate staff housing.

1996
May
Completion of Kent Vale.

1998
March
The Estate Office and Campus Upgrading Unit were merged to form the existing Office of Estate and Development (OED). The new office is responsible for creating a conducive physical environment in keeping with the University's aspiration to become a global knowledge enterprise.

2001
February
The introduction of the Integrated Zone System to provide a quality service to the University community.

October

The introduction of SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) system to give users more flexibility and autonomy when issuing Works Notification.

2002
July
A new Campus Master Plan was developed to underscore NUS’ vision of a global knowledge enterprise and support NUS’ efforts to develop quality academic programmes and foster synergies between education, research and entrepreneurship.

August
The Prince Georges’ Park Residences was officially opened on 12 August 002 by DPM Tony Tan.

October
The embarkment of water conservation project to inspect and rectify the excessive flow rates and timings of water fittings in NUS in compliance to SS CP48.

November
The launch of OED Site Safety Management System to improve the standing of NUS as a responsible and safe organisation.

2003
January
The embarkment of e-bidding for the procurement of services.
The introduction of Building Cost Records (BCR) to supplement the construction cost information from the industry.

April
A new 2-storey interim building for Singapore Conservatory of Music was completed.

June
CISCO was engaged to curb illegal parking and obstructions to traffic at NUS main roads.
Campus Security conducted pre-departure security talks for students going overseas exchange programme organised by IRO.
August
Two newly constructed water tanks were built to serve an estimated population of 40,000 daily with provision to meet the water consumption needs on campus for the next decade.

The introduction of wheel clamping illegally parked vehicles at NUS car parks and driveways.

October
The launch of the Auto Attendant Recognition System campus-wide

November
The launch of Security Watchgroup, endorsed by the Clementi Police Division, to prevent sabotage and terrorism.


2004
February
NUS met the cleanliness and hygiene standards for the National Environment Agency's (NEA) "Singapore’s Ok" Campaign.

April
Energy Efficient Air Conditioning Plans for the Hon Sui Sen Memorial Library (HSSML) which resulted in a one-time cost-saving of $800,000.

July
A successful implementation of the Campus Refuse Removal by the weighing system.

OED attained ISO 9001:2000 certification for the Provision of Campus Development and Facilities Management Services from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) on 22 July 2004.

October
OED attained ISO 9001:2000 certification for the Provision of Campus Development and Facilities Management Services from the Singapore Accreditation Council on 4 October 2004.

2005
June
The University Hall was completed.

2006
February
NUS High School was completed.

June
Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music was completed

August
LAW Faculty and C J Koh Law Library was successfully moved to Bukit Timah Campus.

A MOU was signed between the Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers (APPA) and OED to launch a Singapore Chapter on 25 August 2006. NUS and APPA will work jointly to improve the quality of facilities management and planning in Singapore as well as the Asian-Pacific Rim areas.

Campus Security (CS) together with the Queenstown Neighbourhood Police Centre (QTNPC) won the Community Safety and Security Gold Award in June 2006.

Student Service Centre as a one-stop student services centre was officially opened on 28 August 2006.

September
A vehicle tracking system (VTS) was installed at the five campus
entrances/exits to monitor vehicles entering and leaving the campus.

November
NUS High School, designed by CPG Consultants Pte Ltd, won a Honour Award from the famous US-based DesignShare awards Programme for its innovative design.

Launch of Campus Sustainability Committee where OED participates as part of the Strategic Implementation Committee.

December
New Car Park system - ERP was implemented at Kent Ridge and Bukit Timah Campuses.

2007
January
The Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and the research institutes were shifted to the new campus at Bukit Timah Campus
