Peh Linde is a Mandarin pop music songwriter, music arranger and producer. From 2009, she has been a freelance assistant sound engineer with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra. She is also currently a songwriter under Funkie Monkies Productions, headed by A-list Mandarin pop music producer/song-writer Eric Ng, award-winning lyricist Xiaohan and producer/singer/songwriter Jim Lim. At the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Peh Linde is working toward her goal of becoming a successful music producer.

Music Training

I started classical piano when I was 7, but the real passion came when I was 13. The pieces I had to practise became more interesting as the harmonies got more complex and playing the pieces involved more emotions. I also started listening to the radio, and like most people, I was interested in pop music as it is easy to relate to.

I also played the saxophone in band during my secondary school days. Now I am trying to self-learn the guitar. Before NUS, I earned a poly diploma in music and audio technology, learning a bit about every aspect of music production.

At NUS, I enrolled in YSTCM’s Recording Arts course to broaden my knowledge of music and recording. Improving in what I’m interested in makes me happy.

Inspiration at NUS

In NUS I have the privilege of interacting with many talented individuals who share with me the same passion for music. This really encourages and motivates me to improve, as in the future, I would hope to see all of us achieving success in various areas of the music industry.

I have also been inspired by many professors/lecturers in my faculty, but if I had to mention someone in particular, it would be my Recording Arts lecturer Mr Zhou Xiaodong, who shares a lot of valuable insights with me. He has taught me that on top of skills, your mindset and attitude is also very important in order to make it as a professional musician.

What I’ll Miss About NUS

I’ll miss having lessons in the Recording Studio. Lessons in the studio are fun; we get to record professionals as part of learning and gaining experience, and get to listen to live music.

Everyone around YSTCM is very nice. The professors are always more than willing to guide you in schoolwork, spend time after class to make sure you understand everything and share their experiences with you. They also have good values and an open mind to differing ideas. All the staff are also very kind and patient.

Music Projects

I’m currently working on a few music arrangement projects, as well as music for an upcoming Internet drama in collaboration with Scrawl Studios.

Last year I wrote the theme song and subtheme for ROCK Republic, a teenage drama, which has been showing on Channel 8. It was my first time working on music for a drama; the challenge was getting into the storyline to visualize the feel and attitude of the song, before actually composing it.

My previous music credits include the following:

  • Music director and official keyboardist for 2009's Xin Yao Performance at the Singapore Arts Museum in collaboration with Echo Music
  • Commissioned by Capital 95.8fm to compose and produce a theme song for a new radio drama, "The Mystery of the Forbidden City", in 2011
  • Performed in the "Heartbeat - Many People, One Community", in support of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games 2010 and Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2012

Future Aspirations

I hope to ‘work’ with music full-time; I’m open to different types of jobs, as long as I can be around music. The ultimate aim is to become a successful music producer.
