Why did you decide to come to NUS?
Among my friends and I, NUS has always been the preferred university. Moreover, NUS is the only local tertiary institution offering undergraduate and graduate degree programmes in Architecture. : )
Fondest memory at NUS
The most demanding and challenging times can sometimes turn out to be one’s fondest memories. I remember being given 11 sheets of A1 papers for assignments on my first day of school at NUS. I spent the next three days in an unfamiliar environment – the design studio – drawing intensively, often losing track of time and foregoing sleep. Though tough and daunting it was, I’m thankful for the companionship of my course mates, many of whom are my best friends today.

Balancing studying, family, friends and work
I guess everyone has different strategies for balancing studying, family, friends and work. I believe that when one enjoys what he or she does, then one will naturally attain a level of balance between their priorities in life. Hence, I focus on making time only for those activities that I enjoy and bring me fulfilment.
Making Friends
Honestly, I didn’t give much thought to how I would make friends in university. I believe that being sincere to whoever you meet and interact with makes a huge difference. After all, even if you’re a part of many social circles or if you’ve many friends, a lousy attitude will get you nowhere.
Huei Siang’s Favourites
Pastime
I enjoy hanging out in places with a nice ambience for a chat with friends or to read architecture-related or travel books without fretting over when my next assignment is due. I find these occasions therapeutic.
Module
It has to be the Design modules, which are core modules for architecture students. It stimulates creativity while teaching us to think critically and sensitively about spaces and the built environment around us. If anyone is looking for something different, they can try bidding for the module or pursue architecture and have a taste of its excitement and fun.
Social networking website
I guess Facebook is the social networking website of choice these days, although I don’t use it that frequently. It helps me to keep in touch with friends whom I can’t catch up with frequently, and makes the organising of gatherings and events much more efficient and convenient.
Favourite eating place on campus
In the library. Just kidding! :) My favourite eating place on campus is Techno Edge, the canteen near the Faculty of Engineering because of its close proximity to
SDE.
Movie
No favourite movie in particular, although some local films appeal to me a lot because I can relate to them more. They have a certain charm about them that I find captivating.
Music
It’s really hard to define what my favourite music is. The music I listen to depends largely on how I am feeling. Sometimes I listen to new age, sometimes its soft-rock, sometimes it’s classical. Other times, it’s rhythm & blues.
Thing about NUS
The wide range of elective modules available to students. I think being able to learn about and delve into disciplines outside your major makes for a rich and great experience.
