Why did you decide to come to NUS?
I found the curriculum and opportunities offered by the
Engineering Science Programme (ESP) very appealing. I was also attracted by the wide-ranging ESP modules, which fitted well with my preference for variety and a broad-based curriculum.

Fondest memory at NUS
Staying till the wee hours of the morning in E3A-04-18 working on projects with friends. Although the going was tough, we still managed to find humour in the most stressful of times, and soldiered on till we completed our work. Those were some happy and memorable times that I will treasure.

Balancing studying, family, friends and work
Pay attention and focus during lectures, tutorials and laboratory sessions so that more time outside class can be spent with friends and family. Also, plan your timetable carefully, choose and bid for modules wisely such that you can have a day without classes to catch a breather.
Making Friends
It may be a challenge to make and keep friends since you meet different people in different modules every semester. I’d encourage taking the initiative to strike up a conversation with anyone around you. Maybe everyone else is also looking for new friends, so say ‘hi’ and who knows, you may just hit it off with someone. If you join
ESP, you can look forward to a small and close-knit student community where everyone knows everyone! Don’t forget to join orientation camps and other bonding sessions too!

Module
Design Project modules ESP2109 and ESP2110. Experiments were conducted to find the Young’s Modulus and vibration frequencies of different beams. We also made a fruit dryer. Currently, we are constructing a WiFi antenna and later in the semester, we will do electroplating. I especially like the Design Project modules because they integrate the knowledge and skills learnt from different modules. I also enjoy the project-based learning process in these modules. It’s so much more fun to acquire knowledge by trying things out, making mistakes and learning from them.

Favourite eating place on campus
The Deck, otherwise known as the Arts canteen! My favourites include the delicious and colourful fruit juice (the colours never fail to make my day, particularly the pink and yellow strawberry banana drink), and the cheap and delicious yong tau foo! There’s also an air-conditioned area where there's Burger King, a café with sofas and a Lerk Thai outlet selling nice tom yum soup!
Dily's Creation at Techno Edge, the canteen at the
Faculty of Engineering. A perfect stopover when the hunger pangs strike! When my friends and I have lessons in the nearby seminar rooms, we'll rush over during breaks or in between lessons to get coffee and local delicacies! I can’t get enough of the muffins and carrot cake.

Thing about NUS:
NUS offers a variety of elective modules which makes the curriculum a lot more exciting. As an engineering student, I can take modules from arts, business and science faculties. The opportunity to do so suits my preference for a broad-based curriculum and makes studying at NUS fun.
