Why did you decide to come to NUS?
Right from the start, NUS was my university of choice. The broad spectrum of disciplines and programmes it offered appealed to me as it meant I’d have more choices and I’d have the opportunity to meet and interact with people from different cultures and backgrounds. Another reason I chose to come to NUS was because it was the only university in Singapore offering Kendo as a CCA at the time. Although I had to give up Kendo due to an injury, I have no regrets as I went on to discover one of my greatest passions – dancing.
Fondest memory at NUS
Joining the NUS Social and Ballroom Dancing Club was perhaps the best thing I did in NUS. Not only was I able to do what I enjoy, I got to meet a lot of people, made some really great friends, took part in competitions, performed at the Esplanade, served on the Club’s executive committee, and the list goes on. At the Club’s annual Dinner and Dance event, I also met the love of my life. To the other club members, you all hold a special place in my heart too!

Balancing studying, family, friends and work
As an NUS student, there are tonnes of activities and opportunities open to you. The key lies in working smart, not hard. Prioritising your time and life in general is so important that I’ll say it again. Prioritise! Consult your professors and work together with your classmates in teams.
Making Friends
Thanks to my classmates and friends, my life in NUS has been all the more enjoyable and memorable. Seniors were very helpful too as they offered advice and study tips.
Do look out for activities and programmes that interest you, such as camps, CCAs, orientation activities! They are wonderful opportunities to make friends. People are actually more approachable than you think. Some of my close friends were from my freshman orientation group, and three years on, I’m glad our friendship remains strong. I believe in just focussing on having fun in meeting people and that it will help contribute to a rich and colourful university life.
Edwin’s Favourites
Pastime
Well, if you made it this far through my profile, you’d know my answer to this one. Yes, ballroom dancing. I can’t imagine what I’d do if I wasn’t dancing.
Module
I pretty much enjoy every module I have taken so far. Each has its own appeal and strong points. I have trouble picking out one that I think stands above the rest.
Social networking website
Facebook. It’s convenient and it’s a great way to keep in touch with friends new and old.
Eating place on campus
Munchie Monkey at Yusof Ishak House, a cosy and comfortable place that serves great desserts.
Movie
I love movies. My favourites tend to be action movies. At the moment, Avatar is my favourite movie. I found it a very well-written and well-directed film that drew me into the spectacular alien world of Pandora. The 3D experience certainly helped to make the movie come to life.
Music
I once watched a movie just because I thought its theme song sounded great. Nowadays, since I spend quite a bit of time on dancing, my music playlist comprises mainly ballroom dance music and other genres of dance music.
Thing about NUS
The people. To me, it is the people that really makes or break a place. I have had the good fortune of meeting some really great people who have helped me along the way. Many of my peers also have good things to say about the staff and professors at NUS.
