The NUS Scholarships are highly coveted scholarships awarded to high caliber individuals who demonstrate academic excellence, present excellent co-curricular activities records and exhibit outstanding leadership qualities. NUS Scholars are expected to contribute significantly to the NUS community while in NUS, and to emerge as dynamic global leaders who are capable of effecting a positive change to society after they graduate.

The five tiers of NUS Scholarships offered to prospective students are as follow:

  • NUS Global Merit Scholarship
  • NUS Undergraduate (Merit) Scholarship
  • NUS Undergraduate Scholarship
  • Kent Ridge Undergraduate (Merit) Scholarship
  • Kent Ridge Undergraduate Scholarship

Interested students should submit one common scholarship application to NUS to be considered for all five scholarships.

Eligibility
Applicants must:
  • be Singapore citizens;
  • have strong leadership qualities and potential;
  • have a good co-curricular activities record, and
  • have offered GCE 'A' levels, Diploma from a polytechnic in Singapore or equivalent qualifications (e.g. International Baccalaureate )

Note: Applicants will automatically be considered for the NUS Global Merit Scholarship, NUS Undergraduate (Merit) Scholarship, NUS Undergraduate Scholarship,Kent Ridge Undergraduate (Merit) Scholarship and Kent Ridge Undergraduate Scholarship using one single application form.

Terms & Conditions
The NUS Undergraduate Scholarship covers:

  • Full subsidy for annual tuition for his/her course of study.
  • A living and book allowance of $3,600.
  • A one-time computer allowance of $2,000 upon enrolment.
  • Recipients of the scholarship have the option to enrol in the University Scholars Programme or the University Town Residential Programme
  • The NUS Scholar Enrichment Grant will sponsor scholars to participate in local and/or overseas enrichment programmes and activities such as conferences, courses, seminars and workshops that do not form compulsory part(s) of each scholar’s academic programme.  E.g. International Youth Leadership Conference

The NUS Undergraduate Scholarship

  • The scholarship does not carry a bond, except for undergraduate courses in Dentistry and Medicine. Dentistry and Medicine graduates are required to serve a bond of 4 and 5 years respectively with the Ministry of Health, upon completing their course.
  • The scholarship is tenable for the minimum period of candidature for the respective undergraduate course at NUS except for Medicine where the scholarship is tenable for one year.
  • The scholarship is tenable for any course leading to a first degree. Only Singapore Citizens (excluding Singapore PRs) are eligible to apply.
  • The University does not provide any assistance towards travel or other costs.
  • Recipients of the scholarship may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship, grant or award without prior approval from the University.
  • The scholarship covers the entire duration of undergraduate studies on condition that scholars maintain a minimum CAP (Cumulative Average Point) of 3.5. The academic performance is monitored on a semester basis.
  •  If the scholar decides to terminate the scholarship prematurely, the university reserves the right to impose a repayment on a case-by-case basis.
NUS Scholar Enrichment Grant

The NUS Scholar Enrichment Grant aims to help enrich the NUS Scholars’ undergraduate experiences and expose scholars to a wider variety of programmes in order to stretch their creative and critical faculties, hone their intellectual and leadership qualities and cultivate a global outlook.

The Grant will sponsor scholars to participate in local and/or overseas enrichment programmes and activities such as conferences, courses, seminars and workshops that do not form compulsory part(s) of each scholar’s academic programme.

The Grant will co-fund 50% of the total cost of participation in the programme up to a maximum amount of S$3,000 for the following eligible items:

  • Official fees for registration and/or participation in the programme
  • Economy class airfare to the city
  • Overseas accommodation (suitable for students and based on prevailing NUS guidelines)


NUS Scholar Enrichment Grant Application Requirements

One soft copy of the Enrichment Grant Application form (with a scanned signature inserted within) should be submitted to the NUS Office of Admissions at oambox27@nus.edu.sg with:

  • Information on the programme to assess its merit, relevance, prestige, and its organiser and participants (e.g. a copy of the programme write-up, brochure and and/or official handout)
  • Photocopies of the application to the programme and/or the letter of invitation/acceptance from the programme organiser (if available).
  • Detailed programme agenda for each day of participation in the programme

Submission of Application

Applications should be submitted to OAM only during the following Grant application windows, and before the start of the programme.

Grant Cap

Each scholar can only apply for and receive the Grant 2 times (for 2 programmes) throughout his/her undergraduate course of study.

Application & Shortlisting Procedure
  • The scholarship application period will run from 1 February to 1 April every year. Students who have sat for their final examinations prior to the application period should proceed to apply for the scholarships even if you do not have your actual results. This will enable us to identify interested applicants and proceed to process your application as soon as the ‘A’ level and final year Polytechnic results are released. However, please note that applications for the scholarship should be done after application for admission into NUS.
  • All Singapore Citizen students can apply to be considered for the Global Merit Scholarship, NUS Undergraduate (Merit) Scholarship, NUS Undergraduate Scholarship, ent Ridge Undergraduate (Merit) Scholarship and Kent Ridge Undergraduate Scholarship by using the common online scholarship application form.
  • A template of the referee’s report can be downloaded here.
  • Selection interviews will be conducted from April onwards. Shortlisted candidates will receive an email notification if they have been selected to attend the interviews.
  • All shortlisted candidates will be informed of the results of their interviews by end July.
  • Scholarships are awarded on the basis of competition among eligible candidates. Recipients will be selected from among the best in each cohort. Leadership, co-curricular records and other capabilities will be assessed during the interview.
  • NUS reserves the right not to award any scholarship if there are no candidates of sufficient merit. The decision of the selection committee is final. Enquiries or disputes surrounding its decisions will not be entertained.
  • We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
