What is the estimated cost of attendance at NUS for the upcoming academic year?

When can I apply for financial aid in NUS?

All current students who are registering in the new academic year, will need to file an online application from 1 February to 1 April. For prospective students, applications for Financial Aid must be made after the submission of the admission application to NUS, and by the closing date for admission applications or 1 April, whichever is earlier. In addition, please note that such Financial Aid applications should be made (1) as soon as possible after your application for admission and regardless of whether you have been offered admission to NUS, and (2) regardless of whether you intend to apply for scholarships and/or other forms of financial assistance offered or administered by sources other than the NUS Office of Financial Aid.

The University will only process applications which are received by 1 April and duly supported by all the required documents within two weeks from the online submission date. The outcome of applications processed will be available online from March onwards. Disbursement of funds is scheduled between August and September, subject to satisfactory completion of all terms and conditions specified in the financial aid offer letter.

Can I file my application on a hard copy of the financial aid application form?

For full-time undergraduate students, application for financial aid must be done online.

Part-time undergraduates are not eligible for financial aid. However, those who are Singapore Citizens may apply for Tuition Fee Loan, NUS Study Loan (excluding living allowance) and MOE Bursary. Application for such aid must be done on hard copy application form which can be requested via financialaid@nus.edu.sg. In July/January.

When should I submit the relevant documents to support my financial aid application?

Within two weeks from the online submission date. The supporting documents may be submitted by hand or mailed to the Office of Financial Aid (within Office of Admissions) at the following address:

Can I request for the deadline for submission of supporting documents to be extended?

All deadlines, be it for submission of application or supporting documents are to be strictly adhered to. A request for extension of any deadline will be entertained only if there are valid reasons.

Once my eligibility for financial aid is determined, what is the amount of aid I can expect to receive?

Financial aid that is offered to eligible applicants who have been assessed to be needy may take the form of one or a combination of the existing loan schemes, bursary award and work study option. Amount of aid offered will depend on the assessed level of neediness of the applicant. Please refer to this weblink for more details.

When can I expect to receive the outcome of my financial aid application?

If you have applied for financial aid by 1 April and have submitted within two weeks from your online submission date all the supporting documents without the need for further verification by us, you should be able to receive an email notification about the outcome of your application from early June onwards.

I applied for financial aid last year and was not offered any aid. Can I apply again this year?

Yes, you can apply again this year because each application received will be processed afresh based on the applicant’s latest financial situation vis-à-vis the prevailing financial aid approval guidelines. Click here to apply.

How can I check my financial aid application status?

You can check the status of your application via the financial aid application system using your student number or admission application number.


10.

I am in financial difficulty but the financial aid application deadline is over. What should I do?

Please note that late application for financial aid is strictly discouraged as this will impact the administration and efficient allocation of funds for financial aid. Aid will be offered first to eligible applicants who have applied on time.
If you have valid reasons for missing the application and/or document submission deadlines, you may send an appeal via email to financialaid@nus.edu.sg stating the following:

  1. Your full name
  2. Your student number of admission application number
  3. The reason(s) for late application/submission of documents
  4. A summary of your family background and income status

You will be advised on the outcome of your appeal within 1 week. Pending receipt of the reply, you should proceed to apply for any of the following schemes to finance your tuition fee payable, if you have not done so:

What are the different types of loans administered by the University?

The types of loans administered on university-wide basis to all eligible undergraduates are as follows:

  1. Tuition Fee Loan (TFL) or CPF Education Scheme (CES)
  2. NUS Study Loan
  3. NUS Student Assistance Loan
  4. Overseas Student Exchange Programme (SEP) Loan
  5. Overseas Student Programme (OSP) Loan
  6. Loan Under Notebook Ownership Scheme

When offered a financial aid package, can I request for adjustment to my package and loan amounts?

Yes, you can if you have valid reasons. Please write to us via financialaid@nus.edu.sg and list down your estimated expenditure for the year against the amount of financial aid you are currently receiving. You should also highlight any mitigating factors that may help us in our review of your request.
