University Entrance Examinations : General Information

The University Entrance Examination (UEE) is conducted by the National University of Singapore (NUS) to assess the suitability of selected applicants for admission to undergraduate courses in Academic Year (AY) 2010-2011. Shortlisted candidates will be considered for admission based on their performance at the UEE and at the sole discretion of the University. Unless invited, applicants will not be eligible to take or appeal to take the UEE.

Eligibility

Only certain international applicants are required to take the University Entrance Examination (UEE). These include students who are presenting the :

  1. Year 12 Indonesian SMA Ujian Akhir Nasional (UAN) Examination but have yet to receive their actual examination results when applying for a place at NUS.
  2. Year 12 Vietnamese High School Graduation Examination (VHSGE) but have yet to receive their actual examination results when applying for a place at NUS.
  3. Year 12 Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) and are applying for Dentistry, Economics & Law, Law, Medicine and / or Pharmacy courses.

Applicants who are not presenting these qualifications are not required to sit for the UEE.

Examination papers

  • Compulsory papers
    1. English
    2. Mathematics ('AO' Level equivalent) or Mathematics ('A' Level equivalent)
  • Candidates must take two compulsory papers
  • Elective papers
    1. Biology
    2. Chemistry
    3. Humanities*
    4. Physics
  • Candidates must take a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 3 elective papers

Elective papers should be chosen in view of the subject prerequisites of the courses for which a candidate is applying. For example if one is applying for the course of Engineering, one should select the Physics paper. If a candidate is applying for Chemical Engineering, he should select the Chemistry and Physics papers. For paper requirements of courses, please click here.

* The Humanities elective paper consists of sections on Economics, Geography and History.

Other tests and interviews


Candidates who have taken the UEE and met the requirements for Architecture, Dentistry, Economics & Law, Industrial Design, Law and Medicine will be required to sit for additional tests and/or interviews at the University in April/ May to further assess their suitability for the courses. Shortlisted candidates will be notified via email.

Registration and examination fee


Shorlisted candidates will be informed to register for the UEE about two weeks before the examination.

An examination fee of S$52^ (inclusive of 7% GST) is applicable. Candidates may pay by:

  • Bank draft / cheque* - Prepare a bank draft / cheque of S$52^ made payable to the 'National University of Singapore'. Ensure that the bank draft can be cleared by a bank located in Singapore. Write your name, address and application number on the back of the bank draft. Payment via bank draft  must be accompanied by a receipt. Please download the receipt, complete it and send it together with your bank draft to:

  • NETS - Payment should be made at the Office of Admissions, NUS. Operating hours are from 8.30am to 5.30pm (Monday to Friday).
  • Credit card: Only Visa and MasterCard are accepted.  Debit Cards cannot be used for this payment mode.  You can make your payment via the credit card payment facility found on the acknowledgement page after you have submitted your application.  Alternatively, you can also logon using your application number and PIN to the Online Status Enquiry Facility to make your payment.

Please note the examination fee is non-refundable and we regret that we are unable to accept cash payment.
