    New Singapore-Cambridge 'A' Level Curriculum (H1/H2/H3 Subjects)

Applicants (regardless of nationality) presenting the Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-Levels (H1/H2/H3 curriculum) are required to meet the following minimum academic requirements:

    1. Pass in at least two subjects at H2 Level and offer either General Paper (GP) or Knowledge & Inquiry (KI) in the same sitting.
    2. Meet the Mother Tongue Language (MTL) requirement for admission by having one of the following:
      1. minimum of D7 for the higher MTL paper taken at the 'O' Level examination.
      2. minimum of ‘S’ grade for the H1 MTL paper or General Studies in Chinese.
      3. minimum of 'S' grade for the H2 MTLL paper taken at the 'A' Level examination.
      4. pass in the MTL 'B' Syllabus paper at the 'A' Level examination.
    3. If you have been exempted from MTL, the MOE-approved subject-in-lieu will be considered as your MTL subject.

If you are unable to fulfil the MTL requirement but satisfy all other admission requirements, you will be admitted to the University on a provisional basis. During your course of study, you will be required to attain the minimum requirement as listed above by retaking the relevant MTL paper as a private candidate at the ‘A’ Level examination or by attending the MTL (Chinese/Malay/Tamil) course conducted by the University as an alternative last resort before you are permitted to graduate. Please note that the MTL (Chinese/Malay/Tamil) course conducted by the University is not subsidised and you will be required to pay a prevailing fee equivalent to what a Non-Graduating student would pay for a Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences module. You are strongly advised not to wait till the final year of study to attempt to fulfill your MTL requirement. If the late attempt is unsuccessful, you will have to bear the consequences of a delay to your graduation.

Meeting the above minimum admission requirements does not guarantee a place in the university as admission to the University is based on open competition and would depend on the applicant's academic standing, course selection and competition amongst applicants. In exceptional cases, work experience and other achievements may be considered.

Since 2009, NUS has published the A-level and polytechnic Indicative Grade Profiles (IGP) and course places of the previous academic year (AY) to enable applicants to make more informed choices when applying for admission. Please click here for the latest IGP.
