Definition of Category B applicants
Applicants (regardless of nationality) presenting an acceptable
Diploma from a Polytechnic in Singapore.
Admission requirements
Applicants, regardless of nationality, applying under Category B
should present a Diploma from a Polytechnic in Singapore. The Diploma
must be acceptable for the course(s) applied for. Applicants should
also submit their Singapore-Cambridge GCE 'O' Level results, if available.
Students in their final year of study at the Polytechnic can apply
with their results obtained from their first 5 semesters of study.
They should submit their final semester results to the Office of
Admissions, NUS as soon as these are available.
The Category B admissions exercise for Academic Year (AY) 2008-2009
opens from 1 to 21 February 2008.
Computation of University Score
Applicants will be admitted to the University based on their
University Score (US). The US is computed using two T-score formulae
based on the Singapore-Cambridge GCE 'O' Level results AND Polytechnic
results.
Under the current admission criteria, the University Score
will be computed as follows:

With effect from 2007, CCA-NS points will no longer be used for university admission score computation.

Discretionary Admission
Up to 10% of vacancies will be set aside for consideration of exceptional candidates for admission to NUS. For such candidates, other factors besides grades will be taken into consideration. The following are some samples of exceptional achievements that the University may take into consideration :
- Medallist in any of the International Olympiads (Biology, Chemistry, Informatics, Mathematics and Physics)
- Winner at the National Science & Talent Search
- Represented Singapore in Arts and/or Sports
- Active participation in community service and volunteer programmes.
- Work experience relevant to the course applied for
- Key leadership positions in community organisations, sports and athletic clubs etc (outside school)
In addition, applicants can provide information on awards/honours that they have won. If candidates wish to be considered under this scheme, they should provide the details in the 'Discretionary Admissions' section in the online application form. They should follow up by sending supporting documents to NUS.
