Standing Committees

The 13 Standing Committees are an integral part of the NUS Students’Union catering to a wide variety of student activities and interest. Find out more about them here.

NUSSU BUSINESS COMMITTEE

The Business Committee is no doubt the marketing wing of NUSSU, bringing in sponsorships for the annual Freshmen Orientation Projects.

Bizcommers not only pick up important skills in interpersonal communications but also in networking and negotiation. Furthermore, they get a chance to be the account manager for the company that they brought in.Other events that Bizcom brings to you are the annual bizcom bash, bargains-filled vanity fair and marketing seminar. The annual bash is organized by the newly-recruited Bizcommers that aids them in honing their skills and enriches their learning experience. As for the vanity fair, we bring to you exclusive prices from well-known brands like Clinque. As for our internal events, we hold monthly get-togethers in terms of birthday celebrations and chalets. It helps to bond bizcommers together to build strong friendships that can assist in managing projects.

NUSSU COMPUTER-BASED LEARNING CENTRE

NUSSU CBLC belongs to the welfare wing of NUSSU. It serves the NUS community by running two computer laboratories; one in Yusof Ishak House and the other in the Central Library. Apart from basic printing services, CBLC also provides the student population with scanning and CD-writing services.

In addition to its role of day-to-day managing of the computer centers, our standing committee also organises events that improve computer-related skills of the student population. Every semester, we organise popular IT courses like Macromedia Flash, Dreamweaver and Adobe Photoshop for NUS students. On top of that, we also have our highly popular annual Cyberia Camp (usually held in december holidays). Cyberia Camp’s main aim is to weave an element of fun into the learning of various IT programs. During the 3 day camp, besides learning IT courses, friendships are also forged amidst exciting games and activities. Every year, CBLC receives an overwhelming number of signups for our Cyberia Camp.

What NUSSU CBLC aims to achieve is reflected in our Misson Statement: "To provide Top-Quality IT Services to the Student Body."

NUSSU HOOKED

HOOKED (www.hooked-nussu.org) is the official lifestyle-cum-campus E-zine of the NUS Student’s Union and we are passionate in delighting NUS students with the best and most up-to-date information on everything (well, we try very hard to) from fashion to social news.

HOOKED was established just three years ago, and started off as a more interesting presentation of the usual NUSSU News that was blasted to the NUS population’s email. Since then, through the commitment and contribution of our talented pool of writers, the creative team and the marketing team, HOOKED has blossomed into a vibrant and popular lifestyle-cum-campus E-zine, with high traffic rates!

HOOKED is primarily a students’ publication, so we concentrate on giving the students the best and most up-to-date information on everything (well, we try very hard) from fashion to social news. We are working towards carving out a style that is distinctively ours and will need the help of even more savvy individuals. So if you are gregarious and love writing, join the HOOKED team as a budding journalist!
