Natural Resources in Tropical Countries
Ooi Jin Bee (Editor)
Resource analysis is the concern of students of many disciplines. Geographers have contributed to this field of inquiry through research on the nature and distribution of natural resources, the appraisal of regional resources, and the depletion and conservation of specific resources. The contemporary interest in natural source scarcity, sparked by the oil crisis of the early 1970s, prompted the Commonwealth Geographical Bureau to organize a workshop on natural sources which focused on the problems of resource exploitation, depletion, conservation and management in the developing countries of the tropical world. This collection contains the papers presented at the workshop, placed in perspective in the introductory overview which forms the first chapter of the book. The book is divided into three main sections: the first contains papers on mineral and energy resources, the second on renewable sources and the third on problems of resource management and development.
