Folio 08: Documents of NUS Architecture

Limin Hee (Editor)

Documents of NUS Architecture includes talks and workshop proceedings, and international award-winning designs and research projects.

Folio has a brand new look and focus -- to bring to the forefront the discussions, debate and design explorations of the Department of Architecture -- in the least cluttered form. In many ways, this issue reflects the search for new ideas within the many cultures of design: its manifestations as material culture in the age of digital technology, spatial cultures and cultural spaces, and current preoccupations of urban culture with its relations to state, society and ecology. The work of students featured in this volume show the engagement of the design mind with the larger world rather than being overly self-referential, and signals the ambition of this school to become a critical platform of discussion on the transformation of the built environment. The extension of design culture in the school to various scales of engagement -- from the object in the home, to buildings of varying complexities, and to the scale of the city -- provides rich offerings for developing critical ideas to the benefit of human life in this part of the world.
