3.4.4    Experiential Learning

Applying insights from the classroom and extending their learning beyond it is part of the student experience at Yale-NUS. The College organizes experiential learning opportunities for all first-year students as part of their holistic education.

The Week 7 programme gives students in their first semester the chance to interrogate ideas and themes from the Common Curriculum out in the world in small groups led by faculty members. This allows students to explore inter-disciplinary topics in the fields of sciences, humanities and social sciences with various faculty members in projects that take place in Singapore, the region and beyond.

The rigor of these programmes helps to prepare students academically while honing other skills such as writing, working in teams, and intercultural understanding. Experiential learning is a feature of the Yale-NUS pedagogy and opportunities are made available to students throughout their four years to explore topics through experiential learning.
