3.1    Degrees Offered

There are two programmes in the Faculty of Law, available on a full-time basis, leading to the LLB (Hons) degree:

Admission to the Four-Year LLB Programme

The detailed requirements for admission can be found on the NUS Office of Admissions website at: http://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/apply-to-nus.html. Admission requirements vary, depending on the qualifications presented for admissions. Shortlisted candidates are required to sit for a written test and an interview. Selection shall be solely based on the discretion of the University and will depend upon the number of places available in the Faculty.

Singapore-Cambridge ‘A’ Level

  • Applicants presenting the Singapore-Cambridge A level results should have good overall ‘A’ level results, including at least B grade in H1 General Paper (GP), or a good pass in H2 Knowledge & Inquiry (KI); or a minimum SAT Critical Reading / Evidence-Based Reading & Writing score of 700 accompanied by a minimum E grade for GP/KI.
  • An improved GP grade of B or better or a good pass in KI from another sitting can qualify one for application to Law, but only the GP or KI grade obtained in the same sitting as the other main ‘A’ level content papers can be used for computation of the admission score.

Polytechnic Diploma

  • Applicants presenting an acceptable diploma from a Polytechnic in Singapore should possess excellent ‘O’ level results, a minimum grade of A2 in English Language at ‘O’ level and preferably a Certificate of Merit (COM).

NUS High School Diploma

  • Applicants who present the NUS High School Diploma must present at least B+ grade for English modules EL5101 AND EL6103 or a minimum SAT Critical Reading / Evidence-Based Reading & Writing score of 700, with at least C grade for English modules EL5101 AND EL6103.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma

  • Applicants presenting the International Baccalaureate (IB) qualification should possess good IB results, including at least grade 5 for :
    • SL/HL English A: Language and Literature;
    • SL/HL English A: Literature;
    • SL/HL English B; or
    • SL/HL Literature and Performance
  • A minimum SAT Critical Reading / Evidence-Based Reading & Writing score of 700 accompanied by a minimum grade 4 for SL English or SL Literature & Performance can also qualify one for application to Law. Those completing IB in the year of admission to NUS may apply based on their projected results.

International Qualifications

  • A good IELTS score of minimum 7.0 or TOEFL score of minimum 600 (paper-based) or 100 (internet-based) is required if students possess equivalent high school qualifications which are in the non-English medium.

Please note that different application deadlines apply to different applicant category and high school qualifications.

Admission to the Three-Year Graduate LLB Programme (GLB)

The objective of this programme is to inject multidisciplinary expertise into the legal profession, which increasingly requires more sophisticated and technical knowledge in many areas. Applicants must be prepared to do the course full-time for three years and complete a minimum total of 120 credits.

Shortlisted applicants will be required to sit for a written test and attend a formal interview. Selection shall be solely within the discretion of the University and will depend upon the number of places available in the Faculty.

  • Applicants should possess a university degree, preferably in a non-law discipline, or are completing their first degree by June of the year of admission (August intake).
  • Two academic referees will be required. If you have left school for some years and are unable to submit academic referees, 2 recommendation letters from employers will be accepted as an alternative.
  • International applicants whose university degree is in the non-English medium are required to submit proof of their proficiency in the English language, for example, a minimum TOEFL score of 600 (paper-based) or 100 (internet-based) or IELTS score of 7.0.
  • Applicants who have work experiences may wish to furnish a curriculum vitae.
