The Minor in Data Engineering programme is a joint-initiative by the Faculty of Engineering and School of Computing. The main aim of the Minor is to train graduates with the ability to handle and manage the large volume of data generated by industry and glean actionable insights from that data.  It is open to all NUS undergraduate students who have fundamental computational and engineering training.

Students in the Minor in Data Engineering are required to complete a minimum of 24 MCs, including a mix of core modules and elective modules.

All students in the Minor are required to complete FOUR core modules, which contribute a total of 16 MCs.  The core modules are:

  • EE3801 Data Engineering Principles
  • IT2002 Database Technology and Management or CS2102 Database Systems
  • EE4802/IE4213 Learning from Data or CS3244 Machine Learning or IT3011 Introduction to Machine Learning and Applications
  • CS4225 Big Data Systems for Data Science

Students also have to select TWO elective modules, which contribute a total of 8 MCs, from a basket of elective modules which may change from time to time.  The basket of elective modules is:

  • BT4015 Geospatial Analytics (BT2101 Decision Making Methods and Tools as pre-req)
  • EE4704 Introduction to Computer Vision and Image Processing
  • EE5907 Pattern Recognition
  • IE4210 Operations Research II
  • IE4211 Modelling and Analytics
  • IE4243 Decision Modeling and Risk Analysis
