2+2 Scheme of NGS Scholarship

Instructions and information to note:

  1. The application needs to reach NGS at least 6 months before the commencement of the student’s attachment in the partner university/institution.

  2. Student must be recommended and nominated by an NGS supervisor on the basis of existing strong cross-institutional research interactions.

  3. The supervisor has to complete the enclosed form and submit it, together with the supporting documents to NGS for consideration.

  4. The supervisor and student will be informed of the outcome of the application, approximately two weeks from the date of the application, provided all given information is complete.

  5. Approval is subject to eligibility of student, evidence of existing research interactions as well as the availability of spaces.

  6. The student may spend up to two years in the partner university. However, the minimum duration of the attachment has to be 9 months.
    Note:  Any attachment spanning 9 months or less would be considered a short-term research attachment.

  7. The student may only embark on an attachment after completion of the first semester in NGS.
    Note: NGS deserves the right to request postponement of the departure date, should the student not perform satisfactorily.

  8. Students will receive the monthly stipends when overseas, but students will NOT receive additional stipends by NGS. NGS will NOT pay any fees to the overseas University unless a “double” PhD  ie. one badged by both Universities, is involved.

  9. The financial assistance from NGS may include the following item(s), subject to approval.

    (i) One-time only round-trip (economy class) air ticket to the designated country of attachment.
    (ii) Monthly accommodation allowance, if necessary.
    (iii) One-off special allowance.
    - This is a one-time allowance to help students settle into the country.
    - The allowance will be given at the start of the attachment


Note: 

  • NGS has the right to provide financial assistance in either some or all of the items stated above.
  • NGS is entitled to make and issue additional guidelines or to revise or amend the guidelines as it deems fit.


NOTE: The form has to be completed by the supervisor with details of the existing NGSS student he/she would like to nominate.
