Leave Matters for AGS students

Holiday Leave

All leave applications must be submitted to the NGS office at least 1 weeks prior to the proposed leave period. Online holiday leave application for NGS students with NUS Faculty members as Main Supervisor is available at:

Other NGS students can only view the status of their application online.
  • A research scholar is eligible for paid leave of 10 working days per year for the duration of the A*STAR Graduate Scholarship (AGS).
  • Holiday leave excludes Sunday and Public Holidays. Saturdays are considered full working days. There is no half-day leave application.
  • Unconsumed leave in any one year will be carried forward to the next year.
  • Medical leave that falls within the applied holiday leave period will not be discounted.
  • When the scholarship is terminated, the leave entitlement will be pro-rated according to the termination date. If excess leave has been taken, the scholarship stipend will be deducted accordingly. Holiday leave not utilized prior to the scholarship termination date will lapse and there will be no payment of stipend in lieu thereof.

Conference Leave

  • A research scholar may apply for Conference Leave, with the support of the Principal Supervisor.
  • Duration of the conference leave will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
  • A maximum of 1.5 days before and a maximum of 1.5 days after the conference may be granted for traveling purpose.
  • A copy of the invitation/acceptance letter from the organizer must be attached with the leave application.

Other Leave (unpaid)

  • Leave of absence is inclusive of Sundays and public holidays.
  • Medical leave, including maternity leave, is considered as leave of absence. Paid leave is granted up to 14 days for out-patient care and 60 days if hospitalization is required per year. Valid supporting medical certificates or letter must be submitted.

Others

a) Compassionate Leave

Duration of the compassionate leave will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

b) Reservist Training

Paid leave will be granted. A copy of the notice must be attached with the leave application. However, those who are required to serve the balance of their National Service liability will not be given paid leave.

Exemptions and Revisions

NGS and A*GA;
  • may choose to revise this Scheme from time to time at their absolute discretion.
  • are entitled to make and issue additional guidelines with respect to this Scheme from time to time and to revise or amend such guidelines as they deem fit. All such guidelines shall be deemed to be part of the Scheme.
