Congratulations to our supervisor Associate Professor Ong Soh Khim being awarded the 2009 Emerging Leaders Award in Academia for demonstrated leadership in academia, groundbreaking research in manufacturing engineering by the US Society for Women Engineers on 16 October 2009.

Congratulations to Professor Andrew Nee, NGS Management Board Member and Supervisor, being elected as Vice-President (Elect) of International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP) from August 2010 and President from August 2011. He is the first ethnic Chinese (and Singaporean) to be elected President in the 60 years of CIRP history, since 1951.

CIRP is the foremost international academy dedicated to production engineering research. Its membership is limited by rigorous peer scrutiny.

Starting from August 2010, NGS will offer two PhD scholarships each year for students from Commonwealth Countries. Click here for scholarships details.

Young Scientist Awards (YSA) 2009
The YSA recognises to young researchers, aged 35 years and below, who are actively engaged in R&D in Singapore, and who have shown great potential to be world-class researchers in their fields of expertise. This award is organised by the Singapore National Academy of Science and supported by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research. Recipients receive a trophy, certificate of commendation and a prize of S$10,000.

Congratulations to our supervisor Associate Professor Michael Raghunath being awarded a Walton Visiting Fellowship to the National University of Ireland at Galway by the Science Foundation of Ireland.

Congratulations to our supervisor Professor Lee Tong Heng and team members for winning the ASCC 2009 Best Application Paper Award for "Design and Implementation of Robust Automatic Flight Control System for a Small-Scale UAV Helicopter".

Faculty Sculptures
The Faculty Sculptures project is an interactive carving effort involving the NUS community of alumni, students, staff and faculty from the various NUS Faculties and Schools.

The themes of NGS sculpture "Integration" are that of integration, synergy, different faculties/origins, common goal, and global connection.

Li Baowen Professor Li's work, Thermal Memory: A Storage of Phononic Information", has recently been published in Physical Review Letters and reported by Science News Magazine, Physics World.
