Application top

ONLY online applications via https://inetapps.nus.edu.sg/gda/common/newlogin.aspx are accepted.

An applicant who wish to be enrolled one semester earlier or later than what is indicated on the online application form, please indicate in a separate note, and send it together with the rest of the supporting documents.

* Important Note: If you wish to be considered for more than one Faculty/School, you must submit a separate application.  There is no limit to the number of applications you can submit.  However, each application must be accompanied by separate fee payment and supporting documents.
Unless granted approval by our University, no candidate may concurrently be a student for more than one degree or register as an NUS candidate and of another university/institute.

 

Password (for online application only) top

When submitting your application online, you will be asked to enter a 6-character Password.   Your Password is important and can be used, together with your application number, to access the following online facilities related to your application:

  • Online Application Status Enquiry
  • Online Update of Contact Details
  • Online Reply to Offer of Admission

 

*Note:  If you have posted your supporting documents and payment (by bankdraft), please allow 4 weeks for postal delivery before checking your admission and payment status. 

 

Application Fee top

The following non-refundable application fee is payable for each programme you apply for:

Please note that an application without the application fee payment will not be processed.

The modes of payment are:


Local Students:

a. Online Payment (or E-payment) by any of the methods (For application submitted for Semester 1 AY2012/2013 onwards):

  • Credit Card (AMEX, VISA or MasterCard).
  • Debit Card (applicants must have a online banking account with either of the following banks - POSB/DBS, UOB or Citibank).

Applicants should login to the Graduate Admission System to check the status of their payment a few days after payment is made. The status of the payment may be found in the declaration page.

b. Complete the Application Fee Form and send it together with a crossed cheque made payable to “National University of Singapore”.  Please write your name, mailing address and programme (Graduate Research Programme at NUS Graduate School for Integrative Sciences and Engineering) applied for at the reverse side of the cheque; or

c. Complete the Application Fee Form and make payment by NETS at the Student Service Centre (located at Level 1, Yusof Ishak House) during operating hours.

 

 

International Students:

b. Complete the Application Fee Form and send it together with a bank draft (drawn on a bank in Singapore in either Singapore dollars or US dollars equivalent) made payable to “National University of Singapore”.  Please write your name, mailing address and programme (Graduate Research Programme at NUS Graduate School for Integrative Sciences and Engineering) applied for at the reverse side of the bank draft.

c. If you are unable to obtain a bank draft in Singapore dollar, you may submit a bank draft in US dollar of USD18.50 (for S$20 fee). The amounts in USD include bank charge which will be incurred by the University to process the bank draft.

Please note that an application without the application fee payment will not be processed.

Research Proposal

Applicants are required to submit details of their research proposal and give the significance and aims of the project.

Transcript

An official transcript of academic records is required from each university you have attended.  You are responsible for requesting the transcript(s) from the relevant University.   Please use the prescribed form for such request.

Transcripts must be enclosed in an official SEALED envelope with its flap bearing the security seal of the university and the signature of the Registrar or representative. 

Graduates from NUS can submit copies of their result slips or official transcripts of their academic records.

TOEFL / IELTS*

Applicants whose native tongue or medium of university instruction is not English should submit the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) as evidence of their proficiency in the English language.

Please quote the following TOEFL institutional codes for each of our Faculty/School and the specific Department codes.

For IELTS, the score should be 6 and above.
Please note that the TOEFL/IELTS scores are valid for 2 years from the test date.  If it has been more than two years since you last took the test, you must take it again to have the scores reported.

GRE*

GRE is compulsory for students applying from overseas. Only strongly recommended for graduates from local institutions, e.g. NUS or NTU.

For GRE, please quote our University’s code (0677) and the specific Department codes.

Referee
Reports

Academic Referees’ reports may be submitted in any ONE of the following ways:

1.  After you have completed and submitted your online application – less your Academic Referees’ reports, your Academic Referees will each receive an email containing a link, which they can access to complete an online form. Of course, this means you must ensure you key in correctly your Academic Referees’ email addresses in your online application form.  In addition, you have to monitor that your referees do receive the auto-generated emails, in case the emails are not churned out due to technical glitches.

2.  Your referees may use the online form downloadable here. (S)he will email the duly completed form to ngsbox4@nus.edu.sg, specifying your full name in NRIC/passport, your NRIC/passport number, and your application ID.

3.  Your referees may use the online form downloadable here. (S)he will pass you his / her duly completed form in a SEALED envelope with his / her signature across the flap, to be included in your hardcopy application package, that you will be mailing in to NGS.

Publication(s)

Please submit a copy of each of your publication(s), if any.

The journal’s “Impact Factor” field (which allows input of up to one decimal point) is essentially a measure of scientific impact that is based on citation rates for an article or other citable item.  It also takes into account the significance of the journals in which result has been published.  Please leave it blank if you are unsure.

Statement of Purpose

Applicants are required to describe their reasons and motivation for pursuing a graduate degree in NGS.

Applicants who wish to be enrolled one semester earlier or later than what is indicated on the online application form, please indicate in a separate note, and send it together with the rest of the supporting documents.

All supporting documents which are not in English must be accompanied by an official certified English translation.

Supporting documents submitted are not returnable.  Please do not submit your supporting documents via email.   Enclosures via e-mails will not be opened and will be deleted.


Submission of Application top

Please note and remember after you have submitted the online form, you

  • would not be able to upload any more documents.

  • would not be able to make any more changes.

Requesting us to make any changes will delay your own application.
Thus, please ensure all is proper and complete before you "Submit" your online application.

1) print out your completed application form.
2) sign the form.
3) mail the form - together with your supporting documents, a copy of your NRIC/passport, and application fee payment - directly to:

Application Closing Dates and Outcome top

If you have submitted the completed application (with all the required documents) before the respective application closing date, your application will be processed and you will be informed officially of the outcome of your application.

Completed / Incomplete application received after the respective application deadline will be considered for the next Intake.

If successful, you will receive an admission package containing information and relevant forms together with your letter of offer. 

Due to the large number of applicants seeking admission, we are sorry we will not be able to attend to enquiries on the status of applications or receipt of documents. If you are concerned about the delivery of your documents, you may wish to consider sending them via registered mail or courier.

Important notes to applicants.
a)     The University has not engaged any external agencies to undertake student recruitment on its behalf. Candidates interested in our graduate programmes are advised to apply directly to the University and not through any agents. Candidates who apply through agents will not have any added advantage in gaining admission and the University reserves the right to reject such applications without giving reasons.

b)    Applicants should note that the research experience gained during or after your studies is invaluable to you, and could add weight to your reference letter. It would be one of the important  factors for the review of your application. Please take this into account in your application.             

Correspondences from the University top

NGS will correspond with you primarily using e-mail and the online status enquiry during application process to convey messages such as requesting for outstanding documents, interview notification etc. 

Hence, it is very important that you provide a valid and correct e-mail address and maintain your e-mail account regularly.   The University will not be responsible for undeliverable e-mails and their consequences.

Rejection of Application top

Inaccurate or false information or omission of material information or no application fee payment will render your application invalid.  The University reserves the right to reject applications that are incomplete or inaccurate.  Persons admitted on the basis of inaccurate or false information may be expelled.
